Okay first and foremost *SPOILER ALERT* If you do not wish to know what the contestants of American Idol are singing this week please just ignore this post. If you like me love looking at spoilers this is a post for you. Okay as many of you know the Top 24 performed on Thursday in Detroit for a pre-recorded live show. We now have their songs and here is my reaction to all of their songs. I will put them in performance order.
The GUYS are first:
Savion Wright - Hey Soul Sister (Train): Oh Savion....why of all songs would you pick this one. It does absolutely nothing for a singer. I predict this will be a decent performance but I think it won't win him any votes. Status: Could be in danger of leaving this week.
Mark Andrew - The Weight (The Band): This song is literally perfect for Mark's tone and voice. I am so proud of him for picking a great song. I know most people are kind of indifferent to Mark at this point but I think this performance may change people's minds from "Eh he's okay" to "He needs to make the Top 12". Status: Breakout performance
Adam Ezegelian - I Want To Rock (Twisted Sister): The source going to the show said Adam was a standout. I can't really see this performance being anything other than a shouty mess that Adam has proven himself to give during rock songs ("Born To Be Wild", "Here I Go Again"). The person who went may have liked Adam going into it. If that's the case I'm sure I know his fate. Status: Going Home.
Michael Simeon - How Am I Supposed To Live Without You (Michael Bolton): Michael, Michael, Michael. This song will do nothing for you except maybe get you a plane ticket home. I'm sad that he picked this song because I felt like he was going to do some really great things in this competition. Unfortunately, he shot himself in the foot. Status: Most likely leaving this week.
Trevor Douglas - Best I Ever Had (Gavin DeGraw): Trevor was extremely smart when it came to this song choice. I really can see this being a great performance from him which in my mind he needs after the "Burning Love" performance. Status: Safe for the week.
Clark Beckham - When A Man Loves A Woman (Percy Sledge): The source who attended the taping said Clark got a standing ovation. I can honestly see him doing well with this performance. I don't see it being as epic as Joshua Ledet's version but I can see it being a great performance for him. Status: Stand Out Moment.
Rayvon Owen - Jealous (Nick Jonas): This is such a perfect song for Rayvon's voice. I really am thrilled to see how well he does with this performance. Status: Safe for the week.
Daniel Seavey - I'm Yours (Jason Mraz): This song is about all Daniel could really handle honestly. It won't make me dislike him but it won't bring me on board either. Status: Most likely leaving this week.
Riley Bria - Homeboy (Eric Church): This song really suits Riley's voice. I think it will keep him around this week. Status: Safe for the week.
Quentin Alexander - I Put A Spell On You (Screamin' Jay Hawkins): This performance could either be a standout or disastrous. According to the source it was a standout performance. I'm not sure if I should listen to the source or not. Status: Could go either way depending on the performance.
Nick Fradiani - Thinking Out Loud (Ed Sheeran): Nick knows exactly how to pick a song that could get him through and stay consistent with how well he has done thus far in the competition. I'm actually really excited to see this performance. Status: Best performance of the night.
Qaasim Middleton - Uptown Funk (Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars): I did not expect to see Qaasim closing the show but he is. I actually think this song is a very smart choice for Qaasim. It was the right song and with him closing the show I have no doubt in my mind he's going through. Status: Safe for the week.
My predictions for who will leave BEFORE I hear the performances are: Savion Wright, Adam Ezegelian, Michael Simeon, and Daniel Seavey
Now for the GIRLS:
Lovey James - Love Runs Out (OneRepublic): Okay I've actually heard Lovey's cover of this song and it is sensational. I think she will have no trouble getting through to the next round. I think she could really get the crowd going with this performance. Status: Safe for the week.
Adanna Duru - Rather Be (Clean Bandit and Jesse Glynne): This song doesn't really have the WOW factor that is needed to make it through this 4 girl cut. It's a decent song choice but I just can't see it being a standout. Status: In danger of going home.
Alexis Gomez - Gunpowder and Lead (Miranda Lambert): It's a good song choice for Alexis and I think she will do well on it, however I just think the other girls in the competition are just simply better than Alexis. Status: Going Home.
Joey Cook - Somebody Like You (Keith Urban): My initial reaction to the song choice was Joey just shot herself in the foot and is going home but then I heard she got a standing ovation. I think she may have changed up this song to work for her, although the judges gave out standing ovations lightly last season. Status: Safe for the week.
Katherine Winston - Safe and Sound (Taylor Swift ft. The Civil Wars): OH MY GOSH! Katherine picked the perfect song for her voice. I can just hear her tone on this song and just slaying this song. Unfortunately the source said the judges called her boring. I think it might enrage America to vote for her. On a side note I really wanted Majesty Rose from last season to sing this during movie week and instead we got "Let It Go". Status: Standout Performance.
Shannon Berthiaume - Who Knew (Pink): I think this song could work for Shannon although it wouldn't be my first choice for her. The source said that the crowd did not like Shannon's performance so there's a good chance she could leave. Status: In danger of going home.
Loren Lott - Note To God (JoJo): I found a video of her covering this song and it actually is one of the best things I've heard from her. It's not as good as "Skyfall" but this performance is definitely miles ahead of everything else she did. Status: Safe for the week.
Shi Scott - Umbrella (Rihanna): Oh Shi...she hasn't been great the rest of the time and I just have a feeling this song choice is a disaster waiting to happen. The source also said the crowd did not like Shi. Status: Going Home.
Maddie Walker - Love Gets Me Everytime (Shania Twain): Listening to the song it sounds like it would be a good choice for Maddie but it just doesn't seem like a standout performance that she needs to move on. Status: In danger of going home.
Sarina Joi Crowe - Mamma Knows Best (Jessie J): OH MY GOSH! Sarina has a huge voice and I could really see this begin a moment from her. The source who went to the show said that she was a standout. Status: Standout performance quite possibly of the night.
Jax - Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) [Cher]: I really hope Jax did the Lady Gaga version on the piano because it sounds like it would suit her more. I could see this being a standout moment for her if she did that version. According to the source she was a standout so I have a feeling she went with the Gaga version. Status: Standout performance quite possibly of the night.
Tyanna Jones - Lips Are Moving (Meghan Trainor): ....This gets the pimp spot? I was really hoping Tyanna closing the show would have a really epic song choice but she chooses "Lips Are Moving". From what the source said this performance was very underwhelming and did not deserve to close the night. Status: Safe, but at the bottom of the pack.
My prediction for who will leave from the girls is....: Shi Scott, Alexis Gomez, Adanna Duru, and Shannon Berthiaume (just for the fact the crowd didn't love her). Maddie is also in danger of leaving so I wouldn't count her safe just yet. Tyanna is aiming herself to be eliminated next week if she doesn't step it up.
That's it for my comments on the Top 24's song choices. Let me know what you think of their choices and who you think will be leaving the competition.
